Auditions...

- October 7th 2012

And so a new year begins with a flurry of audition dates kicking off this week. Beginning with:

Panto Auditions!

Auditions for this year's Panto will take place over two days. The first day of auditions is Monday, 8th October, and they will take place in CG01 in the Henry Grattan Building from 6pm.

The second day is Tuesday, 9th October, and on this day the auditions shall be taking place in the Helix from 6pm.

No need to be nervous, just come along to have a quick read through of the script. All you need to have prepared is a little snippet of a song of your choice.

In case you haven't heard already, this year's Panto once again comes from the hilarious and wonderfully dirty mind of Lisa Keegan. Meaning the panto will once again be certain to have the audience almost wetting themselves with laughter all through the show.

Stars in their Eyes

Auditions for this year's Stars in their Eyes will take place on Monday, 8th October, in CG02 in the Henry Grattan Building from 6pm, and also on Tuesday, 9th October, in the Helix from 6pm.

The event is loosely based on a tv show of the same name, and offers all of you lovely people the chance to dress up as your favourite music act, be it a singer, girl band or boy band!! There'll even be a performance from last year's winner, the LOVELY Lisa Hopper!

Both these events are an ideal way to get involved in the society for those new members who have had the pleasure of working with us before, so I would encourage anyone to come along to one, or both, of these auditions!

All good things......

Little Shop of Horrors

The time has finally arrived.

After months of hard work, the cast of Little Shop of Horror's will be performed in the Theatre of the Helix this week.

If you've been living in a plant shop and haven't heard anything about the show until now, it's an edgy, fun filled, plant eating rock opera extravaganza, and not one to miss!

So join Seymore and Audrey as they struggle to make Mr. Mushnik's flower shop more successful by letting the public see their newest plant, the Audrey II. And watch Audrey II blossom from a tiny plant into a giant monster the likes of which have never been seen before on this planet.

The show takes place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm each day. Tickets are 10euro for students and 15euro for non-students, and they're on sale in the Hub at our ticket desk. But you can also get them from the box office in the Helix.

A.G.M

So as I mentioned in the email last week, our A.G.M (though I said E.G.M) will be taking place in week 12. I can now confirm the date is Tuesday, April 24th and it'll take place in CG12, starting at 6:30. For those of you who are thinking of going for committee and don't know which position to run for, here's a list of all the positions that are going:

Chair

Vice Chair

Secretary

Treasurer

P.R.O

E.L.O

Training Officer

Sponsorship Officer

Tech Officer

Webmaster

We're also going to discuss at the meeting whether or not we'll be keeping the position of Assistant P.R.O on the committee, and if we do, then that position will also need to be filled at the A.G.M.

D.A.D.A's

The DCU Annual Drama Awards will betaking place next Wednesday in the upstairs part of Matt Wheldon's (the pub out on the Ballymun Road, across from the Avenue entrance), where we'll come together to reminisce and award people for outstanding performances, and other things.

It begins at 7.00p.m. on Monday, and since it's in a pub, we'll probably be there a while. ;)

So that's all, and don't forget to come and see the musical this week. You'll regret it if you don't MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Planting Skills and ideas

- 9th April 2012

So here we are in week 10, that means that we're one week away from the musical "Little Shop of Horrors" taking place in the Helix. And it also means that we're two weeks until the end of the semester, and our EGM, where we'll be picking our new committee for next year.

We'd also like to let y'all know that our Chair, Emma Wall, won Best Personality at the DCU Society Awards last week, and will be going to Athlone during the week to represent DCU Drama at the BICS (Board of Irish College Societies) Awards.

Patrick Sutton Workshop

This week, we're having a workshop hosted by Patrick Sutton, who is the Director of the Gaiety School of Acting, and he's coming to DCU to give our members an acting masterclass.

So you might be asking yourself at this point, how much is this going to set me back, and the answer is... NOTHING AT ALL, it's COMPLETELY FREE!! And after the class, you're more than welcome to talk to Patrick about the profession of acting, as an industry insider he can give key advice and guidance.

So the workshop takes place on Tuesday, March 10th at 5:00 pm in The Gallery in the Helix (enter through the stage door, and it's on the top floor). It's such a great opportunity that you'd be daft to not go to it!

So you can decide whether or not you want you want to run for committee and what position you want to run for. If you have any questions about any of the positions on the committee, feel free to ask which ever committee member currently holds that position. There should be some information about each position on the committee page on our website http://www.dcudrama.ie/.

Clubs and Societies Awards

- 2nd April 2012

First a bit of good news, at the I.S.D.A Awards which were on last Friday, Katie Gannon, one of our own members, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in D.N.A. We'd like to say a great big congratulations to Katie for her well deserved nomination. Also this week, it's the DCU Society Awards, and the awards that we're up for are:

- Best Society

- Communications & Marketing

- Best Personality: Emma Wall

- Best Fresher: Laura-May Keohane

- Individual Contribution: Tanis Tonge and Oisin Kelly

- Best Event: the panto "Crappily Ever After"

Anyway, this is what we have going on this week:

King Lear:

After a year away from Shakespeare, we're bringing it back! And this year, we've decided to do King Lear... but not as you may know it. To give it a bit of a twist, this version is set in a modern day mafioso family. But the story is still the same as when Will wrote it all those years ago.

"A King retires his kingdom to 2 of his not so innocent daughters..... and so the plot begins as the struggle for power culminates in a final bloody encounter."

The show will take place on Tuesday, April 3rd at 7:30 pm in The Space, in the Helix. Tickets are 5 euro.
